Shape and Line in Art

K-5 Students are learning about Shape and Line.

This week we discussed the work of Dutch Artist Piet Mondrian. We talked about various paintings that Mondrian made throughout his career. Students identified Shapes, Lines and Colors in the artworks.

Students participated in a group activity discussing Mondrian's most famous work, The Broadway Boogie Woogie, 1942-43.

Students then created their own abstract art designs using cardstock paper and graphite pencil. We will be spending time next week bringing our artworks to life by adding color.

You can discuss Shape and Line in Art, Mondrian's artwork and the Abstract Art Movement with your student by reading together this article
