New Diocesan Art Standards
Focus on artistic literacy: vocabulary, techniques, interpretation, and creativity
Emphasize expressing personal and faith-based meaning through art
Grade-level bands build progressively:
K–2: Observation, discussion, and basic creation
3–5: Skill development and meaningful communication
6–8: Planning, analysis, and use of art language
Projects, media, and artists are chosen by the teacher to meet these standards
Grades reflect progress toward benchmarks and objectives
Academic Rigor Policy
Students must create original work; copied, traced, or plagiarized work is not accepted
Referenced images or complex topics require teacher approval
Artwork is generally kept at school unless approved to go home
Accommodations are honored through student learning and behavior plans
Student grades in Art will be a direct result of the achievement of learning outcomes. No participation grades will be awarded.
Missing Work Policy
All assignments must be turned in by the due date
Late work is accepted throughout the quarter without penalty, at the teacher’s discretion
