Art Club

Image
This year students are able to join Art Club. Since Christmas break, students have been attending Art Club after school for a hour of Free-Choice Art making.  This is a great opportunity to explore new mediums and tools, as well as develop crafting skills. Students enjoy leading their own projects, or working together to create an original work of art. Art Club is a free extra-curricular activity for students run by Ms. Thurman and student volunteers.  Art Club will run through the end of year, and start back up in August, when students return from Summer break.  Check out some of our art below:

Sneak peak: 8th grade Pinch Pots

Image
Students are rounding off their exploration of Hispanic artists and artwork with a lesson on  Día  de los Muertos.  We learned about the different artifacts placed on alters during Día de los Muertos. The 8th grade is hard at work creating Clay Pinch Pots for an alter.   We discussed the importance of creating a welcoming alter filled with someone's personal belongings, food, and photographs. We looked at photographs of alters and got inspiration from the different artifacts.  Pictured is a sneak peak at the 8th grade drying their pinch pots. Students were encouraged to create a design of their choosing.
