6th-8th grade students are creating their first project of the year!
Students are refining their drawing skills this quarter by creating their own "About Me" Poster. They will be practicing techniques that will further assist their work in future drawings/paintings. Students are focusing on movement, graphic design and color to complete this project.
To prepare for our "About Me" poster, students learned about popular artists of the Psychedelic Rock Poster Trend, as well as the Art Nouveau Movement. Students participated in a group discussion about the artworks of Bonnie MacLean. We used words like organic, cryptic and natural to describe the themes in various works and architecture. Students discussed how Maclean's art has a function, and is used for advertisement and marketing.
Students will be spending the next several class periods working in the "studio" as they plan and create their project. You can read more about the Art Nouveau Movement here.
